For Jewish students in LA who choose to live at home while pursuing their college education, the Pico neighborhood offers a unique and welcoming environment. With easy access to kosher food, close proximity to family shuls, and a strong sense of Jewish familiarity, Pico is more than just a convenient location—it’s a place where Jewish identity and college life can thrive side by side.

At the heart of this experience is the Pico Hub, a warm and inclusive initiative of JLIC that supports college-age students attending Santa Monica College, West LA College, and other schools while living in the greater Pico/Robertson area.

David and Shana Kashani

David and Shana Kashani are a dynamic couple with a shared passion for creating a vibrant Jewish community.  David brings a wealth of experience to his role, having served as the JLIC President at UCLA and as the Yavneh West Regional Coordinator, where he successfully established the Yavneh community on the west coast. I have formed very strong relationships with many of the JLIC staff. I have received guidance and advice that has helped me make decisions in religion and my personal life.

The directors help lots of people get closer to Hashem and keep Shabbat and kosher, they are a resource for people who have questions whether they are religious or not, and provide an enjoyable and safe space for people to see their friends and meet new people.
They’re always there for me! Especially this year, I’ve gone to them for not only halachic questions but personal ones as well. I have a friend who is struggling with her Judaism and they not only told me to invite her to an event, but they said that they would prepare a special dvar Torah that would speak to her and make her feel welcome, loved, and not judged or farther away. This is just one example out of many of how amazing they are.
JLIC has provided learning and growth opportunities for me. I have been able to learn and connect with others because of JLIC.
